Fowzie released from jeep use case

The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court has yesterday released former State Minister A. H. M. Fowzie in a case filed against him for allegedly causing loss to the government by using a jeep worth Rs.19.5 million given to the Disaster Management Centre.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Nandana Amarasinghe made this order pursuant to a request made by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption Director General had filed the corruption case against the former State Minister under Section 70 of the Bribery Act. The Bribery Commission alleged that former State Minister Fowzie had unlawfully used a Land Cruiser jeep belonging to the Disaster Management Centre between 2010 and 2015 while he was serving as a senior minister during the previous regime. The value of the vehicle was estimated at Rs. 19.5 million.
