French funded Anuradhapura Integrated Urban Development Project under way

The implementation of Anuradhapura Integrated Development Plan has been entrusted with the Urban Development Authority. The credit facility to be granted is Rs. 10,000 million.

This is under the credit facility signed between the Government and the French Agency for Development (AFD)

Referring to the urban development project the North Central Provincial Director of the Urban Development Authority H. W. Somarathna told the Daily News that the main objective of the project is to promote a balanced made of co-development between the Anuradhapura Sacred City and the Anuradhapura New City with the intention of preserving the cultural and natural heritage befitting to a world renowned cultural heritage in the form of an ancient Anuradhapura Kingdom identical for a large collection of monuments marvelous arts and crafts of historical value.

‘‘The main objective of the implementation of the Anuradhapura Integrated Urban Development Project (AIUDP) under the master Strategic Cities Development Project (SCDP) are the identification of urban regeneration area of Anuradhapura conceptual urban plan, preparation of mobility and traffic management study and preparation of storm water drainage master plan. We have already completed redevelopment of Sri Mahabodhi East gate car park, Mirisawetiya vehicle park, Lankaramaya vehicle park, development of Southern multi-modal transport centre, Lion Pillar roundabout development and renovation of Surapura open air theatre and the SLBCS Rajarata Service Open air theatre including landscaping of Dharmapala Mawatha,’’ Somarathna emphasized.
