French President to visit Sri Lanka
The President of France Emmanuel Macron is expected to visit Sri Lanka for a couple of days, this weekend. President Macron will be visiting Sri Lanka on his way back from Papua New Guinea, Friday night (28th July). French president will only be in the island for a few hours, until 29th July morning.
According to French media reports, the French President will meet President Ranil Wickremesinghe during his brief stay in Colombo. It is likely that debt restructuring is one of the topics that will be discussed between the two counterparts.
This will be a first of its kind, marking the first visit by a French President to Sri Lanka.
President Macron’s visit comes nearly a month after President Wickremesinghe went to Paris on the invitation of the French President to attend the Global Leaders’ Summit for a New Global Financing Pact.
