According to the Rubber Research Institute, a fungal disease is spreading in the rubber plantation due to the heavy rain and lack of sunlight these days.

According to the Rubber Research Institute, this disease, known as Pestilotiopsis Microspora, is caused by a fungus that occurs in the leaves of the rubber tree.

These facts were disclosed in a discussion held at the Ministry of Plantation Industry under the participation of the Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industry, Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera.

The officials of the Rubber Research Institute informed the minister that this fungus is spreading due to excessive rain and lack of sunlight and this disease which started in the rubber plantation in the low country wet zone is currently being reported from areas like Monaragala.

At present, the growers have started to be notified for the control of the disease and if this disease condition is reported in their rubber plantations, the agency requests them to immediately meet the officials dealing with rubber cultivation and get the necessary advice.
