A farmer from Yakgaha Mahakumbura Yaya in Walahanduwa Agrarian Services Division in Akmeemana, Galle has obtained a yield of 80 bushels per acre from a paddy field cultivated using eco-friendly plant nutrient liquid fertilizer and organic fertilizer.

The particular agro output has been confirmed in the harvest survey carried in the area Census and Statistics officer U.H.Ajantha Kusumsiri stated.

The yield of 80 bushels per acre has been obtained by farmer K.V.S.R Wickramaarachchi in Yakgaha Mahakumbura Yaya.

“I cultivated using plant nutrient liquid fertilizer and liquid manure provided by the government. Organic fertilizer was produced by me. Large quantities of organic manure were applied to the paddy field. No insect or fungal damage was observed.

During the previous Season when chemical fertilizers were applied, the yield was between 90 and 100 bushels per acre. Yields have dropped by about 10 to 15 percent only. But at that time the price of a kilo of paddy was 52 rupees.

The government has stated that a kilo of paddy will be purchased at Rs. 90 this Season. So there is no loss. A successful harvest can be obtained by cultivating paddy using organic manure, commenting on his harvest farmer Wickramaarachchi said.

The Harvest Survey was carried out by Agrarian Research and Production Assistants attached to the Walahanduwa Agrarian Services Centre.
