An armed group broke into the tourist hotel belonging to attorney Maithri Gunaratne, PC in Ahangama, Kataluwa early yesterday morning (28) and abducted the hotel’s security officer after questioning him about the whereabouts of Gunaratne.
Gunaratne was not in the hotel premises at the time of the incident. At around 2.30 am yesterday, two of the four people who came in a Prado jeep had gone the hotel, pointed a T56 firearm at the security officer and had questioned him about the whereabouts of Gunaratne. After the security officer had replied that he did not know where Gunaratne was the two armed men had blindfolded him and forced him into the vehicle and fled along the Galle road.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the security officer had been thrown out of the vehicle at Ahangama Valhengoda area.
According to police the vehicle went to a fuel filling station before dropping the security officer and got fuel and fled without paying. Police are investigating the incident.
