Gang war suspected in Brandiawatta shooting

A person was injured in a shooting that took place yesterday (9) in the Brandiawatta area of Wellampitiya and was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.

The Police say that while the victim was staying at a house in Brandiawatte, two people who came on a motorcycle or in a three-wheeler came close to the house and called out his name and when he went out they shot him with a pistol and fled.

The police have received information that the person who was shot had come to live in Brandiawatta area four months ago. Before that, he is said to have resided in the Mihijaya Sevana housing complex in Colombo.

Police said that they suspect a conflict between underworld criminals to be the cause of the shooting.
