Gang who stole batteries from phone towers arrested

Piliyandala Police say that they have arrested an organized gang of three people who stole more than Rs.7 million worth of batteries used for charging telephone towers.

Police also took the custody of a van and a stock of batteries worth around Rs.2 million.

According to a complaint received by the Police that four batteries installed in a telephone tower in Bokundara area were stolen, they managed to arrest a suspect in Ransagoda area after a long investigation based on the CCTV footage.

Based on the information revealed from the driver, Police revealed details of a series of thefts committed by this suspect along with two others. Two suspects were arrested during interrogations when it was been revealed that these suspects stole 20 batteries from eight telephone towers belonging to a one company.

Police found some of the stolen batteries which were sold to a businessman in Delgoda area by the suspects. A few more batteries are to be found. The suspects will be produced before the Kesbewa Magistrate’s Court.
