Garage owner arrested with firearm in Peliyagoda

A group of Traffic Police Officers attached to the Grandpass Police on Wednesday arrested an owner of a garage in Gampaha while in possession of a 9mm firearm.

The suspect (29) is a resident of Mahipalagoda, Yakkala. The traffic police stopped his motorcycle at the Bandaranaike Roundabout near the Kelanitissa Power Station, and the weapon was found when his bag was searched.

During interrogation, the owner of the garage had told the Police that he had kept the weapon for his security as he has to carry about Rs 3-4 million cash from Gampaha to Colombo frequently to import vehicle spare parts using the “Undiyal” money transaction method. His garage only repairs luxury vehicles. When asked how he received the weapon, he had told the Police that he found it on the land near the garage.
