GCE O/L Exam planned to be held in Year 10
The Education Ministry is looking to hold the GCE Ordinary Level Examination in Year 10 instead of Year 11, Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha said.
Earlier students faced the Ordinary Level Examination in Grade 10, but later it was extended by one year to Grade 11 and the possibility of holding the Ordinary Level Examination back in Grade 10 is currently being discussed with the relevant parties.
He said that this issue will also be considered in the future education transformation.
The Minister also mentioned that this work cannot be done at once and it is expected to be done under three classifications starting from first, sixth and tenth Grades as primary, secondary and tertiary.
Further commenting that in a knowledge society where knowledge is doubling at a high speed in a very short period of time, the necessary updates should be made and the foundation should be laid for the generation of children who have the independence to choose their future direction after appearing for the Ordinary Level examination through a new transformational change in education.
