German firm awarded contract to supply 5 million polycarbonate NIC cards

Sri Lanka has finalized a major procurement deal to purchase five million pre‑printed polycarbonate cards for issuing National Identity Cards (NIC), with the contract awarded to M/s Muhlbauer ID Services GmbH of Germany.

The decision follows Cabinet approval in April 2025 to initiate the procurement process through International Competitive Bidding, which drew eight submissions. 

After evaluation by the High‑Level Procurement Committee, the German company was selected as the substantially responsive bidder.

The contract is valued at EUR 4.93 million, and the cards will be supplied to the Department of Registration of Persons to support the issuance of National Identity Cards nationwide. (Newswire)
