Giant-killers Air Force stun CH and FC 30-22
Air Force SC delivered a stunning blow when they defeated the CH and FC 30-22 in their SLR Nippon Paint Inter-Club League Rugby Tournament first-round fixture played at Ratmalana yesterday.
The Airmen were trailing 6-19 at half time but in a dramatic turn of events the home side bounced back magnificently to collect 24 points in the second half and record a thrilling victory in the end.
Air Force SC collected their points from three goals, two penalties and one drop goal while CH and FC responded with two goals, one try and one penalty.
Earlier, CH and FC were well on course to an easy victory as they built up a commanding 12-6 lead after 30 minutes of play with flanker Yoshitha Rajapaksa scoring two superb tries.
Both tries were converted by Rohitha Rajapaksa while Nuwan Perera did the early scoring for Air Force SC while firing a beautiful drop goal and putting over a 30-metre penalty.
Centre Janidu Dilshan added the third try for the CH and FC shortly before half time to make it 19-6 and Rohitha Rajapaksa fired an easy penalty to increase the lead to 22-6 midway in the second half.
But thereafter, the Airmen got their momentum and played some fantastic running rugby to outplay their opponents with fly half Ishara Madushan, substitute Isuru Jayaratne and Nuwan Perera scoring a try each.
The latter converted all three tries having earlier started the second half with his second penalty of the match.
