Gihani Wathsala excels in Wushu
Twenty two year old, P.H.Gihani Wathsala, an old girl of Denzil Kobbekaduwa Vidyalaya, Elpitiya, Galle is a talented Wushu Competitor who started her Wushu Career at the age of Five years under the Coaching of P. Jeewan Maduranga and she trained in Wushu at the Uragasmanhandiya Wushu Training Centre as a small kid.
At School and Provincial Competitions she became first in a Wushu Championship in the Under Twelve level in the Charqan Elementary event till the year 2011 and she only participated at School events as she did not get a chance to participate in other events as she was still a Junior student of the school, While taking part in the game of Wushu she was involved in Athletics too at Under 13 and Under 15 levels in the 100 and 200 metre races under the coaching of S.Ramanika,an Athletic Coach of the School at School Inter House Sports meets in the ‘Hansi House’ at District level. She was more interested in the game of ‘Wushu’ and she became Second in a Charqan match whereas the first place was achieved by an Air Force Competitor. In the year 2013 she continued the game of Wushu strongly to win three titles in a contest held at the Sugathadasa Stadium and the titles she won at this particular meet were Charqan, Jiansha and Quiansy titles. In the year 2015 she won the same titles for the Second time and received a Certificate from Manel Dharmakeerthi, President of the Wushu Federation of Sri Lanka. In the year 2017 she repeated her outstanding performances in Wushu to win the above mentioned titles for the third successive year and in 2019 she improved her training and participated at a Wushu contest and won three titles namely Charquan,Jiansu and Quanshu for the first successive year.
In the year 2019 she was selected to represent Sri Lanka in the game of Wushu at the SAF Games and she secured the second place in the Charqan event. In the same year Gihani joined the Sri Lanka Navy and continued the game of Wushu to contest at the World Asian Games Meet.
