Gilanpasa Puja & Alms Giving held in view of Navy Anniversary
Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera along with the President of Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs Mala Lamahewa attended religious rituals where Alms Giving was held at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy today (09th December 2023). In addition, a Gilanpasa Buddha Puja ritual was also held at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic premises on 08th December. The events have been organized as part of the religious segment of the 73rd anniversary celebrations of Sri Lanka Navy.
During multi-religious events, organized in view of the anniversary celebrations, merits were transferred on fallen naval veterans who made supreme sacrifice for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation and blessings were invoked on both retired and serving naval personnel and their family members.
During the customary ritual at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Gilanpasa was offered on the evening of 08th December. Meanwhile, Commander of the Navy this morning (09th December) paid his obeisance to the Mahanayake Thero of the Malwatta Chapter, Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera, Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter, Most Venerable Warakagoda Dhammasiddhi Sri Pagnananda, Gnanarathanabhidhana Maha Nayaka Thera and Karaka Sangha Sabhika of Malwatta Chapter and Guardian of Theva Affairs of Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Venerable Thibbattuwave Sri Siddhartha Medhankara Nayaka Thera, Anunayake of the Malwathu Chapter, Most Venerable Niyangoda Dharmakeerthi thero,Anunayake of the Malwathu Chapter Most Venerable Dimbulkumbure Dhammarathana thero, Anunayake of the Asgiriya Chapter, Most Venerable Wendaruwe Dharmakeerthi Sri Rathanapala Upali Thera, Anunayake of the Asgiriya Chapter Most Venerable, Anamaduwe Dhammadassi thero and received their blessings. Next, with pious sentiments Commander of the Navy offered alms to 25 members of venerable Maha Sangha.
During these events at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, members of Maha Sangha transferred merits on fallen naval war veterans and blessings were invoked on Commander of the Navy, serving and retired naval personnel and their family members on 73rd Anniversary of the Navy.
Chief of Staff of the Navy, Rear Admiral Jayantha Kularatne, Deputy Chief of Staff and Director General Operations, Rear Admiral Pradeep Rathnayake, Director Generals including Director General Engineering and President of Naval Buddhist Association, Rear Admiral Ravi Ranasinghe, Area Commanders, executive committee members of the Navy Seva Vanitha Unit, flag-ranking officers, officers and a group of sailors were also present on these occasions.
