The ongoing HNB-SLTA Clay Court Tennis Championship girls’ open event reached the semi-final stage after the completion of quarters at the SLTA courts yesterday.
In girls’ quarters, Ruvi Lewkebandara of Gateway College beat Zajida Razick in comfortable straight sets, 6/3, 6/4 while Nishka Vivekananda of Ladies College edged out Tania Doloswala 6/2, 6/3. Vishmi Serasinghe of Ave Maria Convent had the better of Dahamna Methnadi 6/2, 6/1, and Arushi Thomas of Newstead College beat Inuki Jayaweera 6/3, 6/4. The girls’ open semi-finals will be played today.
Meanwhile, Tuesday’s boys’ under-18 quarter-finals saw Apna Perera of Ananda College beat Vichinthaya Nilaweera 6/3, 6/0 and Thilina Dissanayake of Royal College defeating Anujan Abeywickrama in a hard-fought three-setter, 3/6, 6/3, 6/1. Hesara kuruppu of Ananda College had it easy taming Talal Sabry 6/0, 6/4 while Zaidh Zihar of S. Thomas’ College defeated Manesh Kajan 6/1, 6/2.
