Global Brands opens outlet at Altair Colombo

Global Brands (Pvt) Ltd a leading wine importer to Sri Lanka opened its outlet at Altair Building Colombo recently. Global Brands plans to open 60 winemarts in strategic tourist locations island-wide to cater to the tourism boom on the island.

Global Brands Managing Director Patrick Gregory is known as one of the best Wine sommeliers in Sri Lanka with wide international exposure in wine tasting. The newly opened Wine Mart at Altair is the maiden mini Mart selling soft liquor such as a wide choice of wines and beers.

Gregory said “As tourism is booming in Sri Lanka we need to cater to the right want of their choice of wine-drinking tourists visiting Sri Lanka from many parts of the world. Hence it requires a wide selection of global brands”.

The company plans to establish a network of 60 liquor outlets in every strategic tourist location in the country. The first phase of the project will include 16 Mmni marts of which 8 full liquor (wine, beer and spirits) outlets and 8 soft liquor outlets (Wine and Beer). “Soon we will open outlets in Bentota, Hikkaduwa, Galle, Unawatuna, Ahangama, Weligama, Mirissa, Hiriketiya, Ella, Nuwara Eliya, Kandy, Dambulla, Negombo, Piliyandala and another outlet in Colombo with full liquor. The plan includes outlets to be opened in Anuradhapura, Jaffna, Batticaloa, Arugam Bay, and some other tourist locations to cover up to 60 in total.” Gregory said they would make a huge investment in this project but did not disclose the figure to the media.

The company imports bestselling Californian, Australian, Italian, South African, and French to Sri Lanka especially supplying to all the tourist hotels (on-premise market) as well as in the (trade market) such as supermarkets and foreign liquor shops.

Paul Topping, a Zambian-born British veteran in the liquor and hospitality industry has been appointed as Chairman by the board of directors. (MFJ)
