GMOA strike unacceptable, unfair – Minister

0 64

The continuing strike by Government Medical Officers’ Association GMOA doctors holding patients to ransom is as unjust as making unfair demands from the government, Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told the Daily News yesterday.

“It is an unfair crack of the whip by the government doctors’ union, “he said.

“The Health Ministry has always treated the government doctors fairly and squarely,” he remarked. The minister said this when asked by us if the GMOA’s strike action over their seven-point demands were fair.

Minister Rambukwella said the Ministry had made its stance clear and what it can do in response to the demands with the GMOA’s government doctors. Rambukwella said the doctors’ demands were “completely unreasonable.” He said the doctors’ strike had not had any negative impact on the government’s COVID prevention programmes or on the emergency health services.

Patients in hospital wards and outpatient departments accused the doctors of taking liberties with the patients and making them suffer for their problems.
