Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera was brought before the Colombo High Court by prison officials in connection with a warrant issued by the court.
The monk appeared in court dressed in civilian clothes.
In September this year, the Supreme Court annulled the presidential pardon granted to him in 2019.
Following the ruling, Gnanasara Thera faces having to serve the majority of his original six-year prison sentence, as he had served only around nine months before former President Maithripala Sirisena granted him a presidential pardon in May 2019.
However, Gnanasara Thera was reported missing following the ruling, prompting the Court of Appeal to issue an open warrant for his arrest in connection with the enforcement of the sentence.
The Court of Appeal yesterday ordered authorities to enforce the remaining period of the prison sentence imposed on Gnanasara Thera following his conviction for contempt of court. (Newswire)
