Goalkeeper selection trials for AHF Asia Cup on January 6

0 3

In preparation for the upcoming AHF (Asian Hockey Federation) Asia Cup, the Sri Lanka Hockey Federation has announced that the hockey selection trial for goalkeepers will take place on January 6 at the Astro Turf in Race Course grounds.

With a preliminary pool of 128 players under the age of 21, consisting of 74 boys and 54 girls, the National Hockey Selection Committee, led by Anuruddha Wickremasinghe, will conduct the first level of selection exclusively for goalkeepers. The trial will commence at 8 AM at Astro Turf.

Sources reveal that the AHF Under-21 Asia Cup is scheduled to be held between February and April 2024. To streamline the selection process, the committee has opted to focus on goalkeepers during the initial stage due to the large number of participants.

Earlier, successful open trials were conducted in Colombo, Matale, Galle, and Wennappuwa, resulting in the selection of 128 players for the preliminary pool across the country. The intermediate level of selection for goalkeepers is the next step in the process.

Players who were not selected have the opportunity to submit an appeal or request for reconsideration to the Chairman of the Selection Committee of the Sri Lanka Hockey Federation through their respective association. The deadline for such appeals is December 29, and direct appeals from players will not be accepted.

The committee aims to ensure a fair and transparent selection process for the AHF Asia Cup.
