Anuradhapura Police have started an investigation regarding an alleged theft of gold and money more than Rs.8 million from the house of the daughter of the famous self-proclaimed psychic Gnana Akka, in Anuradhapura.

Gnana Akka’s daughter’s husband had lodged a complaint with Anuradhapura headquarters police about this theft.

He had told the police that a stock of gold items along with Rs.650,000 was stolen from a cupboard in a room of his house. The total value of stolen money and gold items is around Rs.8,050,000.

He had told the police that he and his wife were planning to go to Colombo to attend a friend’s wedding on the 23rd of this month and when he checked the gold items in his wife’s closet Monday evening (20), he noticed that all the gold items along with the money were missing. The complainant has told the police that his wife attended a wedding ceremony held in Anuradhapura on March 2 and some of these gold items were taken from the closet on that day. Accordingly, the police say that they suspect that the theft took place on a day between March 2 and 20.

The police suspect that a servant in the house may have stolen the money and the jewellery. The woman who had left for her home in Balangoda had not returned. Police investigations have revealed that she had not gone to her Balangoda house after leaving Anuradhapura.
