Gold theft at Plaza shop, value varies
Pettah Police said that a complaint has been received that a gold necklace worth Rs. 850,000 had been stolen by a person who came to buy a necklace from a gold goods selling point located in Sea Street Gold Plaza complex.
The owner of the jewellery shop had complained to Police on Wednesday (23) evening regarding the theft, the Officer-In-Charge of the Pettah Police said in response to an inquiry made.
Information regarding this theft, had been reported to police headquarters that a theft of gold items worth Rs.8,350,000 had taken place at the said gold sales outlet. When asked about it, the Pettah Police OIC said that according to the complaint received from the relevant gold sales shop, only a gold necklace worth five sovereigns had been stolen and Police did not receive any complaint about a theft of Rs.8.3 million.
The OIC further mentioned that an investigation is underway and that they are examining the security camera footage regarding the theft of the gold necklace, based on the complaint that has been received so far.
