According to Katugastota Police, a person who was going to attend a funeral had hidden his gold jewellery in the garbage bin in the kitchen before going on the trip, and then the daughter of the person had given the garbage bin along with the gold to a garbage collection tractor.
The event in brief, is as follows. A person who had saved the gold he had bought with his hard- earned money had kept it in his possession and protected it thinking that the gold will be of help to him one day.
This person, who had been protecting the gold items, recently had to leave his house to attend a funeral. He had thought that someone would come and steal the gold items when he was not in the house, so he had hidden the gold items in a place where he had decided no one would suspect.
Thinking that no one would touch the garbage bin in the kitchen even if all the items in the house were stolen, this person had finally put all his gold in the garbage bin and left the house with a light heart. After attending the funeral, this person had returned home and gone to the kitchen and rummaged through the garbage with the intention of taking back the gold that was in the garbage. But when he saw that there was no garbage bin in the kitchen, he was shocked.
Later, while looking for the garbage bin, his daughter had come and said that she had put the garbage bin into the Municipal Council tractor that came to take away the garbage.
In the end, this person, who lost gold worth about Rs.3.2 million had complained to the Katugastota Police regarding this incident. The Criminal Investigation Division of the Katugastota Police are investigating this matter.
