Government preventing MP Harsha from becoming COPF Chairman – Sajith

The government is working to prevent SJB MP Dr.Harsha De Silva from being given the Chairmanship of the Finance Committee because he is constantly questioning Finance Ministry officials as to why the government is not giving money  for the election, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa questioned in Parliament yesterday. He said Rs.10 billion has been allocated for the election through the budget and it is the amount spent for the country in one day.

The Opposition Leader said this while speaking at the adjournment debate moved by the Opposition relating to “Franchise”. The Opposition Leader said that the government will try to postpone the Presidential election and the General election in the same way it postponed the Local Government election saying that there is no money.

The government is working to prevent elections from being held because there is no money. The President came to Parliament and said that 2024 is the best time to hold an election. How can he say that? The time when elections should be held is in the Constitution. Can politicians violate the Constitution?
