Govt Analyst mentions of DNA sample which does not match with Schaffter’s
Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya yesterday issued an order directing the Chief Judicial Medical Officer of Colombo National Hospital and the Government Analyst to preseve and not to destroy the body parts and blood samples deceased businessman Dinesh Schaffter. The Magistrate also ordered the Borella Police SOCO Division OIC and the Chief JMO to handover the photographs and videos, if any taken before, during and after the postmortem, to court.
The Magistrate also issued an order to the director of the Colombo National Hospital to submit to the court the records containing the patient’s bed number and all the medical treatments given to Dinesh Schaffter when the deceased was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Colombo National Hospital on December 15.
The Magistrate made this order subsequent to a request made by President’s Counsel Anuja Premaratne, who appeared on behalf of the deceased party.
The Criminal Investigations Department informed the Magistrate that the Government Analyst has mentioned that there is a DNA sample which does not match with the deceased person.
Accordingly, the Magistrate ordered four individuals who went to the Borella Cemetery first, to appear before the Government Analyst’s Department on February 20.
The Magistrate fixed further inquiries for February 17.
