Going by the vision of its founder Chairman Professor Senaka Bibile, the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation (SPC) is committed to provide high-quality drugs at reasonable prices, Health Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana said.
He made this observation while participating at the opening ceremony of the 55th Osu Sala outlet in Ambalangoda, recently.
Minister Dr. Pathirana further said that the national role of the Osu Sala is to serve the public by providing safe, efficacious and high-quality drugs at affordable prices, while promoting the usage of generic drugs.
For medicines for pregnant mothers, senior citizens (those over 55) or children under five, a five percent discount is offered at Rajya Osu Sala outlets.
The Minister further said that the government has allocated Rs. 407 billion from the Budget for the healthcare sector and this is the highest amount allocated for this sector throughout history. Rs. 180 billion out of this allocation has been made for drugs.
Speaking on the occasion, Health Secretary Dr. Palitha Mahipala said that it is the responsibility of the Health Ministry to provide high-quality drugs for patients while strengthening healthcare facilities.
