Govt mulling to destroy freedom of expression – SJB

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Nalin Bandara stated that the government which is planning to suppress the media is ready to create a Police State next.

He stated this at a press conference held at the Opposition Leader’s office recently.

He said that the life span of the Governments which worked to destroy the freedom of speech of the people and freedom of the media for the sake of power was very short and the present government also wanted to reduce the life span.

He also demanded an immediate investigation into the facts revealed in the video released by Channel 4, not the statement of the Channel 4 producers.

Preparations are being made to implement the Anti-Terrorism Act. Through that, the Opposition and those who hold opinions against the government are being suppressed.

At the same time, a social media regulation Act is being brought. The Media Minister should bring the social media regulation Act. This Bill is brought through the Law and Order Ministry. He said that the government is moving to create a Police State.
