Govt officers allowed five years of unpaid leave with seniority intact

Cabinet has approved the proposal presented by Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena to give local and foreign unpaid leave to government officials without affecting their seniority and pension.

Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister and Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, who focused on giving unpaid leave to government officials domestically or abroad without affecting their seniority and pension, presented the proposal to the previous Cabinet. The Cabinet of Ministers considered it given its approval for this.

The State Administration Circular 14/2022(III) dated July 13, 2023, was issued under the signature of State Administration Secretary K.D.N.Ranjith Ashoka.

The Provincial Chief Secretaries will introduce the measures necessary for the implementation of this circular in the Provincial public service on the advice and approval of the related Governors. The Ministry of Finance will issue instructions regarding the application of these provisions to officers of public enterprises operating on government funds.
