Govt. provides apartment complex for Colombo University students
Urban Development and Housing Minister and Chief Government Whip Prasanna Ranatunga said that this week, he will present a Cabinet paper for the handing over of the apartment complex built for the accommodation of Colombo University students, to the university.
Built by the Urban Development Authority (UDA) under the supervision of the State Engineering Corporation Sri Lanka (SEC), this housing complex consists of 144 housing units and is located on Kalinga Mawatha, Narahenpita, Colombo.
The area of each apartment is 450 square feet. Each apartment consists of two bedrooms. This apartment complex can accommodate 800 students.
The Minister said that the value of each apartment is about Rs. 600,000 and by offering such accommodation, students will be able to study without any problem. He also mentioned that this will be very useful for students who come to the university from distant places.
The Ministry has also instructed the UDA to look into the possibility of building more such hostels for other universities in the future.
