Govt responsible for restarting education – JVP

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna yesterday said it was the responsibility of the Government to open schools and bring teachers back to restart school education in the country which has had a long break due to COVID 19 pandemic. Former JVP MP Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa speaking to the media in Kandy said the Government should provide a fair solution to the teachers’ problem without dragging the issue any further.

“Teachers are not asking for this pay rise all at once. If the Government gives a fair and credible answer, they are ready to leave the strike and teach the children”. He recalled that when the COVID-19 first wave came it was teachers who came up with the idea of resuming education online.

Although the teachers are ready to teach the children, it seems the Government is not so keen to resume education, he added.
