The government is paying close attention to the salary concerns of engineers employed in the public sector, including issues relating to inadequate remuneration and facilities, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation K.D. Lal Kantha stated.
The Minister made the remarks while addressing the Annual General Conference of the Public Service Engineers’ Association, held in Colombo yesterday (20).
Minister Lal Kantha said the government recognised the contribution of engineers to national development and remained committed to safeguarding their rights and improving their working conditions.
He pointed out that although the challenges faced by public sector engineers receive limited public attention, the engineering community plays a significant role in the country’s development activities.
The Minister further stated that several concerns affecting the profession, particularly inadequate salaries and facilities, had received the government’s attention.
Referring to ongoing development projects, Lal Kantha said the current administration had resumed several initiatives that had stalled before it assumed office.
He acknowledged that efforts to reform existing systems and procedures could lead to challenges and opposition.
The Minister also stressed the importance of ensuring that government departments utilise their allocated funds effectively to support development activities. (Newswire)
