Govt. should fulfill promises – Kiriella

Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella said that the only group that can get international support is the Samagi Jana Balavegaya(SJB).

He said that during the   period of the Good Governance Government, it has been proven that any Government that harasses the minorities will not have the support of the international community.

Kiriella was addressing the media in Kandy on Sunday.

He said that it was Mahinda Rajapaksa who first took the issues of this country to the international arena in 1989 and there was nothing wrong with that. If solutions are not provided by either the Government or the Judiciary, he emphasized that it is fair to approach the international community.

He added that the Cardinal had gone to the international community after waiting for three years because justice had not been done in connection with the Easter Sunday terror attacks.

He said that a Government which is formed through a change of numbers of heads cannot go on for long and that a Government should be formed with people who could come to an agreement on policies and ideas. The Chief Opposition Whip said that about 60% of our exports are bought by Western countries and the country cannot progress without the support of all.

He said that the people had approved of the Saubaghyaye Dekma presented to the country by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and now the Government should fulfill its promises made to the people without making them waste their time waiting in queues.
