Govt should not increase price of fuel and gas – SJB
The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) yesterday expressed its opposition over the sudden price hike of petrol, diesel and LPG at this crucial juncture when people are facing immense economic hardships due to the escalating prices of electricity tariffs and water bills. Addressing a media briefing in Colombo SJB National Organizer Tissa Attanayake asked when the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation received profit during the past six months, why the Government cannot pass the benefit of that profit to the downtrodden people in the country even at this moment.
He said in addition when there is no crude oil price increase in the world market it is a pity that the Government has purposely increased the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG which are the main components of daily life.
Attanayake further said at this time when the Government has increased the taxes of essential consumer items and services, it is not ethical to put more burden on the people by increasing the prices of commodity items.
The SJB National organizer said the sudden price increases of essential items which directly affect the people shows the Government’s inability of controlling the country’s economy.
