Govt. vets partial in offering service, MPs say

0 2

A number of Parliamentarians have informed Minister Mahinda Amaraweera at the Sectoral Oversight Committee (SOC) on Agriculture and Plantation Industries Ministry that government veterinarians have given priority to treating dogs and cats rather than treating animals such as cows, buffaloes, goats and pigs. Many MPs have requested the Agriculture and Plantation Industries Minister to give instructions to government veterinarians to give priority to the livestock industry during duty hours.

The Parliamentarians have made this request to the committee chairman Minister Amaraweera when the committee met at the Parliamentary complex on Thursday. The MPs have said that some government veterinarians in the Kegalle district say that kindness, mercy and compassion can be created by raising dogs rather than raising cows and buffaloes, and these veterinarians encourage people to raise dogs and cats instead of raising livestock. They urged the committee take urgent action in this regard.
