Grandson hacks grandparents to death

Ballaketuwa police yesterday said that a grandson had hacked his elderly grandmother and grandfather to death with an axe on Tuesday night in a house on Navalagama Road, Ballaketuwa following an argument.  

Police said that the suspect who is an army deserter had demanded money from the victims.He had committed the murder after they refused to give him money. The deceased have been identified as R.D.Edwin (75) and E D Gunawathie (69).The suspect, grandson who is 22 years old had fled the area. Police said that he is an army deserter. Both of them had been rushed to Demodara Hospital. The grandfather had died on admission to the Demodara hospital.The grandmother had died while receiving treatment at the Badulla General hospital.

Investigations are being conducted under the supervision of Bandarawela SSP Pradeep Kalupahana.
