Growing enthusiasm for Lankan sea food from Sri Lankan expatriates and Canadian citizens

There is a growing enthusiasm for Sri Lankan sea food not only from Sri Lankan expatriates but also by Canadian citizens, said one of the largest sea food exporters from Sri Lanka, Chairman PNS Business Inc, Calgary AB Canada, Ravi Nanayakkara.

“Calgary AB is a leading trading Company based in Canada and we have also secured a large seafood order from one of Canada’s leading food suppliers, Vaaniy Food Inc. for Sri Lanka sea food.”

“Fulfilling this order we exported Sri Lankan sea food via Lanka Sea food packaging company in a first 40ft container valued at USD25,000. This order is continuing.”

He said that in a bid to streamline this operation and to ensure high quality we also opened a local company, S P N Trading Pvt Ltd, in Battuluoya, Sri Lanka.

“We also pay a higher price to local fishermen so that economic benefits of our exports also goes to the rural community.”

He said that they also export local food stuff including spices, dried food, tea and mainly fresh coconuts for the past 7 years.

In a bid to support the local pottery industry we also export clay pots to Canada.

“Our export baskets are increasing and we are now looking to add Palmyrah products to our basket soon.”
