A person was killed when an unidentified gunman opened fire at him at the Manning Market in Peliyagoda, last afternoon, police said.
The deceased is a 42-year-old resident of Kotahena, Colombo 13 and said to be the owner of several fruit stalls in the Manning Market. The victim was pronounced dead on admission to the National Hospital, Colombo. According to the police, the gunmen had arrived in the market premises in a car and had used a T56 weapon to commit the crime.
Reasons for the shooting and the gunmen are yet to be identified.The fruit seller is said to be connected to the underworld. Peliyagoda Police are investigating.
