The Battle of Kelaniya 32 nd cricket encounter between two prestigious schools Gurukula Vidyalaya and Dharmaloka Vidyalaya will be played on September 12 and 13 at their usual venue R.Premadasa Stadium Colombo. In the mean time their 29 th Limited Over Game too will be worked off on September 20 at the same venue.
This match was inaugurated in 1988 and so far they have met 31 times and Gurukula is leading by 3 to nil and the rest were tame draws. Dharmaloka Vidyalaya are leading 14 to 13 in their one dayers and this match commenced in 1991. This year Gurukula is captained by Sithija Chamod and his vice captain will be Neluka Heshan and Dharmaloka will be captained by Hasindu Piyumal and his deputy will be Rusiru Randunu Wijenayake. This year Gurukula is coached by Rasitha Dinesh while his opposite number is Thilina Anuradha. The two principals Kusala Fernando of Gurukula and Nimal Jayaweera of Dharmaloka are looking forward eagerly to make these two events a reality and in the mean time both of them are requesting the crowd to adhere the health regulations given by the authorities .
This season both schools have participated in schools limited over tournament and Gurukula was in Division One while Dharmaloka was in Division Two. According to the statistics Gurukula has a slight edge but cricket is a funny game and none can predict the outcome of the game until the last ball is bowled.
