Hameed Al Husseini meets Muslim CC, Kalutara in final
The hosts Hameed Al Husseini College, Colombo and Muslim Central College, Kalutara booked final berth in the Oxford President’s Cup Football Tournament 2020. The grand finale will be kicked off at Race Course Grounds on March 27 (Sunday) at 3.15 pm.
The Group of the ‘80s of Hameed Al Husseinie College organized this Inter-School Invitational Football Tournament and it was started on March 7, 2020 at the Racecourse Grounds. The tournament was halted due to the Covid pandemic on March 12, 2020 after the quarter finals. The organizers are schedule to continue the rest of matches from semi-finals.
In the 1st semi-final match Muslim Central College, Kalutara beat S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia by two nil. Hameed Al Husseini College recorded a huge victory (7-2) over Maris Stella College, Negombo in the second semi-final.
S. Thomas’ College and Maris Stella College will clash with each other for third place on March 27 at 1.00 pm on same venue.
The 18 schools with five invited schools from across the country took part in the tournament. The main objectives of this tournament which is sponsored by Oxford Group are to popularize the sport among school children and the public, train them to adapt and play in bigger international grounds.
Also to establish fellowship among participants and to offer an opportunity to the Sri Lanka Schools Football Association and the National team to identify the future talent.
Trophies, medals, and certificates will be awarded to the Champion, runner-up and 3rd place teams while individual trophies will be awarded to the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament, Highest Goal Scorer (Golden Boot), Best Goal Keeper (Golden Glove) and Man of the Match of each match.
