‘Harak Kata’ permitted to be interrogated
Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage responded by granting permission yesterday (21) to the request made by the Special Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department to obtain a statement from Wickramaratne Nadun Chinthaka alias ‘Harak Kata’.
The underworld figure is currently detained in connection with the incident in which a police officer demanded Rs. 13 million from a powerful underworld leader named Sellapperumage Salidu Gunarathna alias Kudu Salindu.
In relation to the classified statement given before the Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage by ‘Kudu Salindu’, who is currently being detained and interrogated over a police officer demanding this amount, a further statement was requested to be obtained by the CID from ‘Harak Kata’ to which Magistrate Thilina Gamage granted permission. Investigations are being conducted to find out whether the suspect has been involved in drug trafficking while abroad, leading members of underworld gangs in Sri Lanka committing murders, drug trafficking, organized criminal acts and obstructing national security and public order.
The Police Special Investigation Division filed a motion and informed the court that investigations have been started regarding the classified statement given by the suspect to Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage on July 26.
The Magistrate ordered the CID to provide necessary office facilities and security to obtain this statement.
Kudu Salindu, Harak Kata and Thevarasage Amila Susira Fernando alias ‘Panadure Chutte’ alias ‘Tintin’ are being detained and interrogated by the Public Complaints Division of the CID.
