Harshana’s father Sydney Silva was a fine sportsman during his hey day was a fine football player at De Mazenod and Zahira Colleges and following his father’s foot steps Harshana commenced his athletic career in grade two and he did Long Jump and High Jump and came second at the school inter house sports meet and he continued annually and in the following year in the under 13 age group he became the school champion by winning putt shot, Javelin and discus throw eventss At the annual sports meet he won the field events and he participated in the All Island and John Tarbet Meets. He was awarded school athletic colours. His coaches were D. Champika and W.Indika and his Master in Charge of athletics was M.Upali.

He commenced Cricket in 1996 and he is a left hand opening bat and a left arm medium pace bowler and in the under 13 age group under Vernon Senanayake he played for three years and in his final year he was the Vice Captain. Then he played for the under 15 team and in his second year he was the deputy skipper and in 1997/98 he played for the Gampaha District Tournament.

Then from 1999 to 2000 he played for the under 17 team and he was the Vice Captain in 2000 and they came up to quarter finals and from 2000 to 2003 he played for the first eleven team and he was awarded cricket colours and altogether he played for five years.

He commenced coaching in 2004 and he did coaching at De Mazoned College for two years in the under 15 and then he took up a coaching stint at St.Benedicts College and coached the Bens under 15 team for for six years and once they reached up to pre quarters. In 2010 in the Traingular Tournament they were the champions and St.Annes and De La Salle took part.

Then he coached St.Peters College Gampaha for three years and Loyala College Bopitiya for three years. Then he joined St.Anthony’s College Wattala and Harshana is coaching the under 19 team presently.
