National Freedom Front (NFF) media spokesman, MP Mohammad Muzammil said that it is the JVP today is supporting efforts by the non-governmental organizations to stop providing primary education to children in their mother tongue.

“A professor representing the National People’s Power has said,’Children should be given education in English from year one at School. We all know that UNICEF says in a recent report that thinking ability and language ability of children who receive primary education in their mother tongue develops fast. We are not at all against using the English language for children’s education.

But it is very wrong to take children away from their mother tongue,” he said addressing the media in Colombo. Muzammil said the NPP professor’s words were contrary to the policies of JVP founder leader, late Rohana Wijeweera and urged JVP Secretary Tilvin Silva to tell the public openly whether party policies has changed in relation to education.
