Hasalaka temple robbed after gagging Chief Monk
Acting on a complaint of the Chief Monk of the historical Hasalaka temple of a robbery of Rs.600,000 from a cupboard at the temple is being investigated.
The chief priest’s hands and mouth had been tied with cloth by three persons who had robbed the money from a cupboard that was in the temple compound. Investigations have commenced upon the complaint made by the temple’s chief priest Ven.Medagoda Sumanatissa under the direction of Ududumbara division ASP Asitha Thotegodewatte. The Chief Priest has said that around 1 am in the morning, he was asleep but has been woken by a sound coming from the main door and realised that three people have stormed in breaking the main door.
They had threatened the chief priest and tied him up with cloth and by holding a knife to his throat.They had then ransacked the cupboard which had around Rs.600,000 which had been a donation for the renovation of the temple and fled.
After they fled, the Chief Priest is reported to have informed the neighboring residents and after their arrival it was found that the robbers have taken off with the money in the cupboard.
