Jayasekarage Hashini Kawshalya one of the most popular and outstanding football players of the Kalutara district is an ordinary level student who has achieved many milestones in education and sports at St. John’s College Kalutara. Hashini was born on 3rd March 2004 as the younger child to parents late Jayasekarage Chamith Krishantha and Batagodage Rasika Kumuduni. They live in Kithulawa, Kalutara. She has an elder sister Buddhini Kawshalya.
Hashini joined Kalutara St. John’s College in 2010 and made her football debut in 2016 but in that year she was not very successful. however since then her team has gradually progressed at the divisional, zonal, district, Provincial and national level and during the period of 2017 to 2021. During this period her team recorded many victories with her contribution and brought honour and glory to her Alma mater and to her motherland.
Due to her outstanding talent she was selected to the Sri Lanka national team for the 2021 South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) under 19 women’s football tournament which was held from 11 – 22 December 2021 at BSSS Mostafa Kamal stadium Dhaka in Bangladesh. She was also selected to the football pool for the up coming 2022 under 18 SAFF to be held in India.
Hashini said: My family background with out my father and lack of proper training and the limited sports resources found in my school were detrimental to the progress of my sports career but the encouragements and guidance of the school principal K.A.I. Lakmal Gunaratne vice principals sports teacher in charge Chandani Anagiyadda, football coach M.L. Sampath Kumara, my mother and sister have been instrumental in my successful sports career. She also said, that if better training facilities and assistance are available her ambition is to showcase her talent and bring pride to the school and motherland at the national and international level.
