Heavy bail for youth in abuse case

A youth who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a British woman was released on a Rs.100,000 surety by the Negombo Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The case was also fixed for January 31 to sentencing the suspect by the Negombo Magistrate’s Court.

The suspect (18) was a resident of St. Anthony’s Road, Eththukala. The plaintiff, a British woman, was walking in the Eththukala area on December 21 when the suspect came on a motorcycle and invited her to get on the motorcycle. She said that she refused. According to the police report, the suspect then molested the woman by groping her.The suspect was arrested by the Ethukala Tourist Police and produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court. Attorney Nelson Kumaranayake appeared for the suspect.
