Heavy rain exceeding 100 mm forecast in several parts of Sri Lanka

The Department of Meteorology has warned of heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm in several parts of Sri Lanka on Wednesday, October 14, due to a low-level atmospheric disturbance persisting in the Bay of Bengal near the island.
According to the department, cloudy skies and increased rainfall are expected to continue across the country.
Heavy showers exceeding 100 mm are likely in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North Western provinces, as well as Anuradhapura district.
Other areas could experience fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm.
Showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Northern, Eastern, Southern and Western provinces, while other parts of the island are likely to experience rain after 1 p.m.
The department has urged the public to take precautions against localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Misty conditions are also expected in parts of the Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces during the early morning hours. (Newswire)
