Heroin peddler gets life imprisonment

An accused who was found guilty for possessing and trafficking over 200 grams of heroin was yesterday sentenced to life imprisonment by the Colombo High Court.

The case was taken up before the High Court Judge Mohammad Irshadeen and he issued the verdict following a lengthy trial and he observed that the prosecution has proved the charges beyond reasonable doubts against the accused.

After considering the evidence that transpired during the trial, the accused was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Colombo High Court. The Attorney General had filed an indictment comprising three charges against Periyasami Suresh Kumara for possessing and trafficking 220.11 grams (gross weight 1,106.03g) of heroin on February 8, 2013 in the Grandpass area.
