High level inquiry into grave allegations

0 3

Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara said that a comprehensive investigation will be launched on the grave allegations raised in Channel 4’s recent video expose on the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily News, Minister Nanayakkara said that he and Minister Harin Fernando will oversee this inquiry, citing their demand for legal action against the perpetrators and masterminds behind the Easter Sunday atrocities.

Minister Nanayakkara expressed confidence that President Ranil Wickremesinghe will take a keen interest on this matter. He posed a provocative question, echoing claims by Channel 4 whistleblower Hamsa Asad Maulana that the bombings may have been strategically executed to propel Gotabaya Rajapaksa to the Presidency.

Minister Nanayakkara alluded to the emotional plea by Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, on behalf of Rajapaksa during the election, hinting at a possible connection.

During a recent Cabinet meeting convened on Monday, there was a proposal to set up a Special Parliamentary Select Committee dedicated to unravelling this complex web of allegations. The Government deliberated on the potential need for international assistance to conduct a thorough investigation, asserting its unwavering commitment to address these serious charges.

Nanayakkara dismissed Channel 4’s timing, suggesting that their video release conveniently coincided with the United Nations sessions, while also voicing his personal belief that the allegations warrant a comprehensive inquiry.

Channel 4 has only escalated the controversy by releasing its video yesterday, featuring exclusive interviews with high-ranking whistleblowers who assert that certain Sri Lankan Government officials were complicit in the Easter Sunday bombings. The nation watches with bated breath as this explosive investigation unfolds.
