Examinations Commissioner General Amith Jayasundara said that a high candidate turnout was recorded at the GCE Advanced Level Examination 2023, which commenced last morning (4) at 2,303 examination centres countrywide.
According to the Examination Department statistics, a total of 346,976 candidates have been selected to sit the Examination.
The attendance of candidates at the examination is high even amidst the bad weather conditions reported from some parts of the country including the North Central Province.
The exams will continue until January 31. Of the total candidates, 281,445 are school applicants while 65,531 are private applicants.
According to Examinations Department sources, no major untoward incident relating to the examinations has been reported.
Jayasundara said that a minor change was made in the examination timetable after Korean Language was added as a new subject. Therefore he strongly advised candidates not to refer to the previous exam timetables. Only the timetable attached to the admission card should be referred to. He urged the candidates to go to their respective examination centres well before the exam begins.
The Commissioner General said that even though disaster conditions have been reported in some areas due to the prevailing rainy weather, officials have made plans to provide all the necessary facilities to the candidates in those areas to sit the examination without any hindrance.
He also said that plans have been made to provide transport facilities to the candidates who cannot go to the examination centres due to disaster conditions such as floods and landslides. Attention has been drawn to set up convenient examination centres for such candidates if necessary.
