Former Sri Lanka and South Asia 100m record-holder Himasha Eashan has been suspended from track and field activities after being found positive for using a banned substance.
This is the second time that Eashan tested positive for a banned substance. The first instance occurred in 2012, when he was a minor and was given a one-year ban, which was brought down to 9 months following an appeal.
Eashan’s out-of-competition sample was collected on October 26 at the Narahenpita Army Quarters in Colombo, which has now tested positive for substances that were included in the 2021 World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) prohibited list.
He has been called for a hearing on November 15 at the Sri Lanka Anti-Doping Agency (SLADA), where further inquiries will be carried out before further legal proceedings. (D.R)
