Hiruni who hails from Kurunegala was born on January 09 2004 and admitted to Holy Family Convent Kurunegala in 2009 . Initially she took an interest in athletics and from grade three to five she participated in team events. When she was in grade nine she commenced inter house basketball and she played basketball up to grade eleven and she was the Best Shooter in 2019 and her School Coach was Mrs.Samarakoon.
When she was in grade seven her parents Rohana Kumara and Kumari Atapattu noticing that their daughters’ forte is Netball handed her over to the School Coach Amalka Gunatilleke and
Trainer Ananda Wannithilleke and in 2015 in the Sri Lanka Schools Milo Tournament they came up to Best 16 and in the following year they came up to Best Eight and they got the Number One position. Then in the following year they swept the board by winning the Divisional and Provincial Tournaments and in the next year they were the Divisional Champions and Runner up in the Provincial Tournament.
In 2017 participating in the Divisional and Provincial they met Kalutara Vidyalaya and lost in the Quarter Finals and at the Milo Trophy in 2018 going through the initial process they were the under 15 Milo Champions and in 2019 they were the All Island Schools Runner up and in the 2019 under 17 Milo Tournament too they were the Runner up and in the same year under 16 Champions and she Captained the under 16 team and she was in the National Schools under 16 pool.
With all these performances under her belt she was selected as the Captain of the under 16 South Asian Netball Tournament held in Nepal and five countries participated and Sri Lankan lasses clinched the Trophy and in the match versus India she was chosen as the Best Player and she was the Highest points scorer in year 2020 and in 2021 National Youth Sports Association organized an Open Tournament and they were the Runner up and this year Milo organized an under 20 tournament and 16 top notch schools were chosen for the final round and in the super final game they beat the formidable and more fancied Musaeus College Colombo under her captaincy and she was crowned as the Sri Lanka Schools Milo Queen 2022 and in the meantime her team mates Basha Udagedara was adjudged as the Best Shooter while Natasha Dias was selected as the Best Centre Court Player and she is the Deputy Games Captain of the School and her Principal Rev. Sister Priyangani is very supportive
